However, this was a time of change and advancement – fire and building safety ordinances, organization of labor unions to better working conditions, limitations of child labor, and four constitutional amendments – federal income tax (1913), popular election of senators (1913), prohibition (1919) and the women’s right to vote (1920) (Amendment, Constitutional, n.d.) .
